BP's Latest Ad Unwittingly Features Anti-Oil Protesters
A public relations move by British Petroleum backfired as its latest commercial features a group of anti-oil protesters.
The ad itself features Iris Cross of BP's Community Outreach team touting the oil giant's claims of safety in the areas affected by last year's oil spill.
"I'm glad to report all beaches and waters are open for everyone to enjoy," she states in the video.
However, as the ad rolls on to the 47-second mark, not everyone looks like they're enjoying the scene. A cluster of protesters can be clearly seen by the beach's edge.
According to Business Insider, one activist wrote a response on the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Citizen Advisory Panel's website, explaining how the group was protesting during the 40th Annual National Shrimp Festival.
"We had no idea that they were actually shooting a BP Commercial," wrote the activist. "Therein lies the irony of finding our protest in their latest commercial... The oil is still here, and so are we."
The commercial first aired on Dec. 26, marking BP's first commercial since 2010.
